ResumoWe found increased gallium citrate Ga 67 uptake by the lacrimal gland in 53 of 61 (87%) of patients with sarcoidosis. The uptake was also increased in 21 of 68 (31%) of patients without sarcoidosis. This difference was statistically significant (P < .005). Because uptake was increased in various disorders causing lacrimal gland inflammation (including Sjögren's syndrome, orbital pseudotumor, and collagen vascular disease), this test is not considered specific for sarcoidosis. It may, however, be useful in detecting sarcoidosis. We found increased gallium citrate Ga 67 uptake by the lacrimal gland in 53 of 61 (87%) of patients with sarcoidosis.
