ResumoThe original suggestion of Heald and Speight that preferential attraction of interstitials to dislocations with Burgers vectors parallel to an applied tensile stress could give rise to an irradiation creep component has been analyzed and discussed by other authors. However, no internally consistent theoretical analysis has been presented, so the magnitude of the effect expected is not well established. We present the results of such an analysis, compare and contrast it with previous treatments and assess the conditions under which it may contribute significantly to observed creep strains.
