ResumoSelf-assembled monolayers of both aliphatic and aromatic thiols can be produced with no apparent contact-angle hysteresis by a modified "template-stripping" method. Organothiol solutions serve as splitting reagents for the removal of the mica from the gold surface. These new ultrasmooth SAM surfaces (see the AFM image) provide new information on interfacial properties including wetting and adhesion.
