ResumoThis paper describes three new cryptaperturate forms of Afropollis Doyle et al. 1982. Biorecord AFROPOL-MURIGROOVE is described from specimens which were recovered by SEM scan searches of strew mount preparations of the late Barremian sample HUN 130/0 from the Hunstanton borehole, Norfolk, England. AFROPOL-LUMPS, an early Aptian form with distinctive sub-mural sculpture, and AFROPOL-COLUMN, a ?late Barremian to early Aptian columellate form, are described from specimens recovered by similar searches of samples of the borehole Mersa Matruh 1 in the Northwest Desert of Egypt. AFROPOL-MURIGROOVE is the earliest recorded example of Afropollis type pollen and provides an important clue to the possible origin and differentiation of the Afropollis group, suggesting that cryptaperturate rather than zonasulculate might be the earliest Afropollis morphology.
