ResumoThe Roman de Florimont, fils du duc Jean d'Orléans et d'Hélène fille du duc de Bretagne, a French text of the fifteenth century, not yet edited, is both an oriental knightly romance and an idyllic romance. Love between two young children becomes the instrument of a political alliance between the Christian West, the Egyptian kingdom and the empire of Constantinople. The latter two are represented as a Saracen, Turkish and at the same time Christian Orient, before the arrival of the young French Florimont, who will marry the oriental heiress after a crusade. The subordination of individual feelings to the victory of the Christian faith and to Western imperialism may explain that the romance does not highlight the amorous happiness and plays down the part of the young heroine.
