Resumo

A series of patients with complete myelographic block in the lumbar region has been reviewed, to assess accuracy of diagnosis and the frequency with which this sign occurs in lumbar disc protrusions. A high degree of diagnostic accuracy was achieved in the 10 cases of block associated with tumour. Additional features such as migration of extruded disc material, arachnoiditis and narrow spinal canals confused the findings in some of the 11 cases of degenerative disease causing myelographic block. Attention is drawn to the condition of the developmentally small canal and its diagnostic features are reviewed.
