ResumoThe British people formerly known to scholars as Coritani , but now commonly referred to as Corieltauvi , lived in the region of Leicester, Nottingham and Lincoln, with their capital at Ratae , or Leicester. Their name was recovered as follows. They appear in Ptolemy as Coritani (variant Contavi ) and the Ravenna Cosmography as Rate Corion (taken as an abbreviated form). Coritani and Corion resisted every attempt to extract a meaning from them.
