ResumoReferring physicians and patients are clearly finding an increase in value from radiologic services, as evidenced by the phenomenal growth in radiology demand over the past decade. Most medical specialties now use radiology to aid in diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, for both inpatients and outpatients. Many hospitals have placed computed tomographic (and sometimes magnetic resonance imaging) scanners in their emergency rooms to help expedite patient care. Hospitals are demanding that radiology departments scan inpatients as quickly as possible to help cut costs and expedite patient discharge [ 1 Boland G.W.L.
