Luminescence of Bi3+ in boron rich La2O3CaOB2O3 (glass and crystalline) ternary system

Resumo

Bi3+ in boron rich La2O3CaOB2O3 ternary system (both crystalline and glass modifications) yield intense band emission in UV region. Two types of Bi3+ emission viz. emission due to Bi3+ isolated centres and Bi3+ clusters are observed in this system. Bi3+ excited state in the crystalline system undergoes Jahn-Teller distortion while this is not observed in the glass modification attributable to the absence of symmetry elements and softer surroundings for Bi3+ ion. Various results obtained based on the luminescence of Bi3+ in this system are discussed.
