A fast arithmetic and logic unit (ALU) has been constructed as a single CAMAC unit. This device has been designed to provide both arithmetic and logical operations on two 16-bit data fields. The ALU will be put into practical use in the energy trigger of the L3 experiment at LEP, CERN. Due to its simplicity and flexibility the circuit may have applications in other high energy physics experiments. In this paper we describe the details of this circuit.
