Resumo

Summary In this notice two major doctoral theses are reviewed, and two recent ecumenical documents are referred to. They all deal, more or less explicitly, with the conception of the Church as sacrament, that at the moment stands high on the agenda of many ecumenical dialogues in which the Roman Catholic church is involved. The publications by Birmelé, Sesboüé and the Comité mixte make it understood that the discussion focuses on the notion of instrumental causality as an aspect of sacramentality. The questions is, then, in what sense the Church as a sign of salvation is also instrumental in its actualization.
