ResumoAbstract By slow neutron inelastic scattering the phonon dispersion relation was measured in potassium fluoride at room temperature for waves propagating along symmetry directions [00ζ], [ζζ0], and [ζζζ]. The experiments were performed on the reactor Diorit at Würenlingen, using a triple axis spectrometer. The results were analyzed in terms of various interionic‐force models. A satisfactory fit is provided by an eleven‐parameter dipole approximation model, which allows for the polarizability of both ions. This model was then used to calculate a frequency distribution from which the specific heat and Debye temperature were evaluated for comparison with thermodynamic data.
