ResumoAbstract We have observed resonant first and second order Raman scattering by the normally Raman-inactive Flu (LO) phonons in centrosymmetric Mg2 Ge. Second-order resonant scattering by the normally forbidden combination F2g + Flu (LO) was also observed. The present apparent violation of the complementary principle is attributed to the breakdown of the conventional parity selection rules arising from finite wave-vector effects.
