Resumo

Normal human tear lysozyme concentrations are analyzed in detail. The importance of demographic temporal and environmental factors are statistically analyzed and only age is found to be a significant variant. Lysozyme levels fall continuously after 10 years of age. The role of lysozyme in eye diseases and as an index of irritation to air-oxidant levels is uncertain. The need for further studies on this enzyme is apparent.
