P. ; MacLeod, J. M. Abstract The W48 molecular cloud has been observed in the J = 2-1 transitions of three CO isotopes near 230 GHz with a high angular resolution. The gas density is about 10,000/cu cm and the total mass is about 1500 solar. Several clumps of density 100,000/cu cm to 10 million/cu cm may exist inside the extended gas cloud. The back edge of the extended cloud is a adjacent to a broad H II region, and could be the site of ongoing high-mass star formation.
