ResumoGranulocytic sarcoma, also known as extramedullary myeloid tumor, is a localized infiltrate of immature granulocytes in an extramedullary site, which superficially resembles sarcoma clinically. The condition was first described by Burns 1 Burns A Observations in Surgical Anatomy, Head and Neck. in: Thomas Royce, Edinburgh, Scotland1811: 364-366 Google Scholar in 1811 and named “chloroma” by King 2 King A A case of chloroma. Monthly J Med. 1853; 17: 97 Google Scholar in 1853 because of the green color of the gross tumor. This coloration is due to the presence of myeloperoxidase enzymes in the immature myeloid cells. In 1983, Dock 3 Dock G Chloroma and its relation to leukemia. Am J Med Sci. 1983; 106: 152 Crossref Google Scholar reviewed the 19th century literature and credited von Recklinghausen for noting the association between granulocytic sarcoma and myeloid leukemia.
