ResumoAbstractThe connection between rural tourism and literary tourism, with a particular focus on entrepreneurship practices, lacks a deeper study in its varied intersections and dynamics. This paper considers these relations, within the limits of potentiality and inherent risks, taking as a best practice example a non-profit organization based in the north of Portugal. At stake here are concepts such as literary tourism, rural tourism, lifestyle entrepreneurship and local sustainable development, focusing specifically on the use of local resources, with local impact, to create a differentiated offer in order to target a niche market. Rural tourism entrepreneurship, highly motivated by lifestyle aspirations, born out of literary heritage, can be sustainable and result in innovative products embedded with endogenous resources, with a significant positive socio-economic impact on the local community. Keywords: literary tourismrural tourismlifestyle entrepreneurshipsustainable developmentheritage AcknowledgementsThe authors wish to thank the FEQ, Maria Sofia Pimentel Biscaia, Karen Mein and the referees who provided insightful comments for improving the present article.NotesThis notion has been discussed and used in literary analysis, especially among the reception theories. The studies of Stanley Fish (1980) are a good illustration of the dynamics of the willing suspension of disbelief in reading, but we also could apply them to storytelling in general. The concept 'willing suspension of disbelief' is originally from Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Also part of intangible heritage used in the tourism field, Coleridge has left as legacy the Coleridge Cottage (Nether Stowey, Somerset, in the UK). Coleridge Cottage, amongst the literary tourism places in the world, is also facing similar challenges to those evoked here in the FEQ's context. For more detailed information about the institution, the writer and the activities, please see the website http://www.feq.pt.One of the most important projects that is being developed is the Casa dos Escritores (Writer's House), which will work as an artistic residence for writers.
