Resumo

The paper examines sociocultural practices and art scenes that have redefined the process of ornamentation in the carnival of Rio de Janeiro between the 1930s and 1950s, a period marked by the decentralization of the carnival of the city due to momentary depletion of this popular festival in the city's urban center. The battles of confetti and the carnival gazebos which are the focus of this article stood out in the landscape of Rio and are thus considered remarkable elements, both for their plastic characteristics and the strong symbolism that they conveyed, especially those inspired in our national identity. Be it for the way or ideology represented there, artists and revelers were directly responsible for these practices which, in a short space of time, found in the media and government important agents who not only supported but also came to legitimize the use of carnival ornamentation.
