Preparation of electroendosmosis-free agarose is described. The method is based upon the covalent bonding to agarose of a small number of positively charged groups which counterbalance the electroendosmosis-producing effect of the negatively charged groups present in commercial agarose. It is shown how such electroendosmosis-free agarose gel can be combined with advantage with polyacrylamide gels in crossed immunoelectrophoresis.
