Resumo

A technique was developed to prepare fission foils of uniform thickness on thin plastic films (VYNS-3) coated with Al, to be used as a cathode inside a 4 pi chamber. The optimum thickness of the Al-coating is 2.5 mu g/cm/sup 2/ on both sides of the film. These films are brought in an ionization chamber filled with a mixture of 98% Ar and 2% N/sub 2/. The influence of the thickness of the U/sup 235/-film on the discrimiration between fission and alpha pulses was studied. The evaluated efficiency of the counter for a 1 mg/cm/sup 2/ U/sup 235/ O/sub 2/foil is (92 plus or minus 1)%; for a 0.1 mg/cm/sup 2/ foil (97.5 plus or minus 0.3)%. (auth)
