ResumoUsing a prescription to obtain the quantum state of a scalar field during and after false vacuum decay, we consider a simple model in which the scalar field interacts with a thin-wall vacuum bubble. We find the state inside the bubble is Lorentz-invariant but has non-vanishing energy density. We argue that this result can be interpreted as the creation of a homogeneous and isotropic open universe with high entropy.
