To the Editor:— In your biographical sketch on Wilhelm His, Jr. ( JAMA 187 :453 [Feb 8] 1964) you pointed out that he was a great lover of music and skilled on the violin. On his bookplate one of the putti is playing the violin indeed, but His's instrument, on which he performed like a professional in regular quartet evenings at home, was the violoncello.
