Resumo

THE purposes of the academic health center are to educate tomorrow's health professionals, conduct clinical and basic research, and provide patients with care at a level of technological sophistication usually unavailable in community-based institutions. This broad agenda makes the academic health center particularly vulnerable to potential litigation. As a practical matter, each function in the triad of education, research, and patient care is affected in an important way by today's professional and general liability crisis.
