Resumo

The effectiveness of the upbringing process in institutions of higher learning depends, to a large extent, on the degree to which educators take account of the state of students' spiritual world, their assessments of the diverse phenomena of present-day reality. It is important to know whether young people have retained a desire for goodness and justice, whether they have workable moral defense mechanisms that make it impossible for them, even under the most difficult situations, to lose their faith in the Good. We attempted to find answers to these and a number of other questions in a repeat sociological survey among students in the different faculties of Orel State University. The findings of the first survey had been summarized in the article "The Moral Education of the Future Teacher" [Nravstvennoe vospitanie budushchego uchitelia] (see Sovetskaia pedagogika, 1991, no. 7, pp. 63-67). Both the first and the second survey involved 420 students.
