ResumoAnne Di Piazza has brought to my attention the important work of A.-G. Haudricourt, who wrote two important papers on the topic of plant metaphor. In one (Haudricourt, 1962) he sees similarities in the way plants, animals and people are treated in western Asia as opposed to their treatment in Oceania. The other paper (Haudricourt, 1964) illustrates the use of a tuber as a metaphor for genealogies and clan divisions in New Caledonia.
