Cavalcanti Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Richmond, VA. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Vanderbilt University and is currently interested in migration and assimilation patterns of Latinos in low-Hispanic-density metropolitan areas. He is principal investigator of the Latinos in Richmond Survey Project, a 2-year, in-depth study of Latinos in the city of Richmond. He has also done work on development, democratization, and religion in Latin American countries. His recent publications have appeared in the Journal of Church and State, Work and Occupations, and the Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences.Search for more papers by this authorDebra Schleef, Debra Schleef Assistant Professor of Sociology at Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, VA. She is co-principal invesitigator on the Latinos in Richmond Survey Research Project. Her research interests also include intersection of race, class, and gender in professional education and the legal profession.
