Resumo

SUMMARY. — After briefly recalling the life story of Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782), the author surveys the main aspect's of his work in the fields of biology and physical science, stressing, more particularly, his contributions where chemistry, one of the least known sides of his scientific work, is concerned. A man with an encyclopedic mind, who was a well-known, respected scientist in his lifetime, Duhamel du Monceau left, as can be seen from this article, a considerable amount of work in the many scientific fields whose development he contributed so greatly to.
