Abstract There are certain situations in dentistry where the use of a long‐acting local anaesthetic is advantageous, especially surgical procedures where moderate to severe postoperative pain is anticipated. Bupivacaine is such an agent and this article aims to provide the general dental practitioner with a brief review of the pharmacology, anaesthetic qualities, and indications for the use of bupivacaine in dentistry.
