ResumoAbstract An industrial process of limonite production has been developed in this laboratory using local iron oxide ore of Kalabagh by alkali method. Sodium hydroxide was allowed to react with pulverized ore at 200∼225°C to produce sodium ferrite. This product was then hydrolyzed to obtain hydrated ferric oxide (limonite) and alkali in aqueous solution. The method was further modified in the light of some operational difficulties. Hydrolysis was carried out under varied conditions for maximum recovery of alkali and the recovery upto 80% found to be economical. A graphical representation of this recovery was also given.
