ResumoEARLIER nutrition experiments conducted in this laboratory with pheasants (Scott and Reynolds, 1949; Scott, Holm and Reynolds, 1954a, 1954b, 1955) have dealt with protein and energy levels, special vitamin supplements, antibiotics, arsenicals and unknown factor supplementation of practical pheasant rations in an effort to achieve optimum growth, feathering and resistance to stress in young pheasants. While these studies have led to the formulation of satisfactory practical rations for pheasants, little has been learned concerning the basic nutritional requirements of pheasants for calcium, phosphorus, other minerals and the various vitamins. Since calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D are critical nutrients in all practical rations, experiments were undertaken to determine the requirements of pheasants for these factors. The results of these studies are presented in this report. EXPERIMENTAL All experiments were conducted at the Ithaca Game Farm of the New York State Conservation Department. The pheasants were housed in wire pens in darkened . . .
