ResumoTwo cases of hysteria are presented. In Case I, the patient was unable to keep his eyes open, and in Case II, the patient believed his legs were paralyzed and his lungs were collapsed. A sequential strategy was used which combined various behavioral techniques based on principles of experimental psychology. The usefulness of matching the behavioral technique with the current condition of the patient was illustrated in both individual and milieu therapy settings. In neither case was symptom substitution manifested.
