Resumo

The intravenous administration of chromatographically purified fractions of garlic (2, 4 and 6 μg/kg dry weight) to anaesthetized rabbits elicits dose-dependent diuretic-natriuretic responses which reach a maximum 60 min after injection, and return to basal levels after 90 min. A gradual decrease in heart rate, but not in arterial blood pressure was observed during the course of the experimental periods. The electrocardiogram was not affected.
