Resumo

Polyacetylene is regarded as a 3D system of long finite (CH)l fragments. The packing of the polymer chains being dense, the interfragment resonance coupling is considerably strong. A model of Coulomb impurity centre, which appears in polyacetylene upon doping, is proposed. The electronic structure of the impurity centre is calculated and its dimensions are estimated. These provide a new explanation for the near-infrared absorption band and for the absence of additional paramagnetism in the doped polyacetylene.
