ResumoThe work presented here seeks to make a survey of cultural goods related to the Seahorse and the municipalities of Ferreiros e Condado located in the Zona da Mata Norte in Pernambuco. Sea Horse is the name given to the popular pastime that is characterized as a theater, including music, dance and poetry, represented by about seventy characters, which are present for about eight hours. The story is told by the tunes and carols (spoken verse) so poetic, the dialogue leading the plot through the figures. His quirks, flaws and blemishes refer to the victims of real characters, representing a major catharsis. Every plot shows the relationship between two basic extracts of sugarcane society: the slaves - currently rural workers - and the landlords - now mill owners and politicians. Throughout the play, the participants exchange of characters, changing only a piece of clothing or a mask. The fundamental object of this research is to investigate the cultural practices present in the merriment and political disputes by it represented.
