Resumo

Kingston Hall in Dorset — subsequently re-named Kingston Lacy — was the home of the Bankes family for over 200 years from the 1660s. Surviving records and the books themselves reveal how the library was built up during its early years. Sir Ralph Bankes himself collected around 2000 volumes, of which about one half are still extant.
