Resumo

Analyzing John Wayne's characteristically active body depicted as a disabled body in the 1957 film The Wings of Eagles , this essay situates discourses of disability, demobilization, the nuclear family, and medical technologies within Wayne's articulation of "hard" masculinity in the 1950s, complicating typical approaches to Hollywood's representation of disability.
