Autores ResumoThe undecimprimi, known in about ten african localities, are here submitted to a new examination after recent learned studies which were dedicated to them. The author presents the entirety of the inscriptions which mention them, accompanying them with a compendious commentary, and undertakes to propose a definition of the nature of this office. Between the reign of Antoninus and that of Caracalla, the undecimprimi, according to various circumstances, are assimilated to the flamines or to the flamines perpetui, or else are quite distinct from any flamines, but, in such a case, they have the responsibility of a priesthood which is not without some relation with the imperial cult and which they carry on before theflaminate. It is an office particular to peregrine cities, except in Thignica where it seems to exist in the time of the municipium. The prehistory (which is indeed punie rather than libyan) of this institution is entirely unknown to us. The author can only suppose that the undecimprimi, who were originally in charge of the worship of certain divinities in punie localities, have associated, as romanisation was progressing, emperor's salute with the worship of such gods or goddesses as they were under an obligation to honour.
