With new documentary evidence this article discusses an unexecuted commission to Baccio da Montelupo for the cancello at S. Maria delle Carceri, and provides a date for Francesco da Sangallo's bronze statuette of Saint John the Baptist, originally in that same church and now in the Frick Collection. It also establishes the authorship and date of the marble holy-water font which served as the original support of the statuette.
