ResumoDear Sir,The importance of evidence-based medicine has been emphasized for many years. Levels of evidence range from I to V, where level I studies are most rigorously designed and represent the ‘best evidence’. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are recognized as the ‘gold standard’ for evaluating interventions. However, there is a paucity of high level evidence in surgical literature.
