Au cours d'une enquête épidémiologique et immunologique réalisée auprès de 214 sujets travaillant dans des fromageries du Centre de la France, les auteurs ont pu mettre en évidence la responsabilité probable d'un nouvel allergène dans la pathogénie des troubles respiratoires (conjointement aux moisissures). En effet, ont été isolées et identifiées à la surface de certains fromages, des myriades d'acariens du type Acarus siro. Testés avec des extraits allergéniques de ces acariens, certains sujets présentent des tests cutanés positifs et possèdent des précipitines spécifiques. Une expérimentation sur l'animal est en cours pour apprécier le pouvoir antigénique de ces acariens. By means of an epidemiological and immunological investigation involving 214 subjects who were working in the cheese making industry in the central part of France, the authors were able to demonstrate the probable involvement of a new allergen in the pathogenesis of respiratory disorders (together with fungal material). In fact, they isolated and identified on the surface of certain cheeses myriads of mites of the Acarus siro type. When tested with allergenic extracts of these mites, some of the subjects exhibited positive reactions to cutaneous tests and were shown to possess specific precipitins. Experiments on animals are underway to investigate the antigenic power of these mites.
