ResumoABSTRACTAgostino Ferrente's documentary, L'Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio/The Orchestra of Piazza Vittorio (2006), about the formation of a multiethnic music band in Rome, has enjoyed substantial attention since it was first released. In Italy the film received the prestigious Nastro d'Argento/Silver Ribbon and the Globo d'Oro/Golden Globe for Best Documentary in 2007. In this interview Ferrente discusses his beginnings, his stylistic influences and his insights on documentary film-making in Italy. He credits directors Vittorio De Seta and Alberto Grifi, along with Joris Ivens and Henri Storck's Misere au Borinage/Poverty in Borinage (1934), as instrumental in his ‘cinema of relation’. The interview concentrates on the interwoven relationship between the making of the film L'Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio and of the musical group itself.
