ResumoThe Czochralski single crystal growth and laser characteristics of two fluoride scheelits are compared. These are LiY0.5−x−y 3r0.5TmxHoyF4 and the corresponding compound in which Y is replaced entirely by Lu, both of which lase via the Ho3+ ion at 2.06 μm. The major factors controlling the optical quality of these compounds are also discussed.
