ResumoCorrelation matrices and autocorrelation functions were derived from responses of ganglion cells in the isolated goldfish retina. In the first experiment, rod selective stimuli and cone selective stimuli were alternately presented; it was found that the responses to the two stimuli were mediated by the sameon andoff response processes. In the second experiment, two stimuli that selectively stimulated long wavelength sensitive cones were alternately presented to two spatially distinct areas within the receptive field center. The statistical analyses showed that the responses to the two stimuli were mediated by the same pair of response processes.
