ResumoAesthetic Plastic Surgery, by Richard B. Stark, 530 pp, with illus, $55, Boston, Little Brown & Co, 1980. Rees' credibility and experience sparkle throughout his Aesthetic Plastic Surgery , two attractively bound and clearly illustrated volumes. He includes "basic practical tested surgical maneuvers that have withstood the test of time" and he includes technical advances since 1973 when his previous text, Cosmetic Facial Surgery , was published. Substitution of the term "aesthetic" for "cosmetic" in the title apparently reflects a preferred direction in current society. The introductory chapter "Concepts of Beauty" whets the reader's appetite. The chapter "Selection of Patients" contains gems on how to avoid complications and dissatisfaction: "The hardest but most important lesson for the young surgeon to learn is how to recognize which patients seeking cosmetic surgery will become postoperative problems." The rest of the first volume deals with the nose: anatomy, physiology, techniques of rhinoplasty, and complications, all
