Resumo

Hydrogels are widely used as debriding agents in the managementof a variety of wounds. These products also help to maintain a moist wound environment recognised as being beneficial in wound healing. A number of hydrogels are commercially available, and the current review discusses some of the differences between these products and the implications for clinical practice. The current review also revisits the published literature on the use of hydrogels in a variety of different wound types and clinical scenarios. The findings from this review support the use of hydrogels in promoting natural debridement, hydrating necrotic tissue and Loosening and absorbing slough and exudate in a variety of wounds.
