Antoicous, the ce flowers, without paraphyses, scattered along the stems, with acutely pointed leaves entire or very slightly serrulate: plants small, pale green, with trailing stems and irregular or somewhat pinnate, simple branches mostly 3-6 mm. long; leaves straight, erect-spreading when dry, more or less slightly complanate, rather widely spreading when moist, scarcely I mm. long, ovate-lanceolate, those of the stem rather broader and flatter than the branchleaves, which are often cymbiform from the incurved margins, all very acutely or subulately pointed, costate and mostly slightly serrulate or papillose on the margins to near the base; leaf-cells mostly very narrow, the median about 4 ,u wide by 40-60 Iu long with a few small papillae in one row on the under surface, the alar cells few, pale, quadratic, 8-IO ju wide; perichaetial leaves lanceolate, the inner more or less erect-flexuous, gradually narrowed to a very slender, entire or minutely serrulate point; seta mostly 7-8 mm. long; capsule nodding, oblong, unsymmetrical, about I mm. long without lid, much contracted under the mouth when dry and somewhat roughened at base, the lid (immature) acutely pointed, its height about equalling its basal diameter; peristome with teeth cross-striate below, papillose above and rather bluntly pointed, the segments often a little longer than the teeth, keeled, solid along the median line, papillose, from a basal membrane about one-third the height of the peristome, the cilia lacking or solitary, entire and much shorter than the segments; spores smooth, 12-18 ut in diameter. Type collected in Porto Rico near Cidra, no. 8390, growing on twigs in wooded ravine, by Mrs. E. G. Britton, March, 1925; also obtained in Isle of Pines, Cuba, March, 1916, by N. L. Britton, P. Wilson, and Bro. Leon, no. 6119.
