Resumo

We consider the crystal field (CF) splitting of the J = 92 multiplet in tetragonal symmetry and show that knowledge of the CF ground state gives conditions for the coefficients of the hamiltonian which enable us to deduce a suitable energy level scheme. The presence of a molecular field in the ordered region can also be taken into account in a self-consistent way. The method is applied to NpAs2 for which a CF wavefunction is known from the best fit of the Np4+ magnetic form factor. The results are discussed in connection with a model for the calculation of the CF parameters previously proposed.
