ResumoThe present experiments were designed to quantitate the rate of utilization of fructose in normal subjects and in patients with the decreased glucose tolerance of parenchymal liver disease and diabetes. The results indicate that fructose is utilized rapidly in normal subjects and at a nearnormal rate in the presence of marked impairment of glucose tolerance. Characteristic differences in the response of serum inorganic phosphate and of intermediary compounds of carbohydrate metabolism are demonstrated.
