Resumo

Electrical resistivity measurements under hydrostatic pressure have been carried out on black phosphorus single crystals in a wide range of temperatures. A semiconductor-metal transition, with no structural change, has been observed within the orthorhombic phase; the energy gap of the crystal decreases with the coefficient of −17 meV/kbar and vanishes at 17 kbar. At higher pressures metallic conduction is observed.
