Symmetrized product ansatz in the Skyrme model

ResumoA symmetrized unitary ansatz is constructed for the two-nucleon system in the Skyrme model. The ansatz has the same reflection symmetry as the numerical solution recently obtained by Verbaarschot et al. using lattice techniques and is shown to violate the equations of motion for the two-body problem by a smaller amount than the conventional (unsymmetrized) product ansatz. The long-range part of the central isospin-independent nucleon-nucleon interaction is calculated and found to be similar to that obtained with the conventional ansatz. It contains an additional weakly attractive component.
